Monitoring the quality of intake water from rivers and reservoirs for the presence of organic contaminants is a straightforward application for focs.
The sample is passed through a 40mm pathlength flowcell and the UV spectra are recorded at regular intervals on a 24/7 basis. Comparisons are made between successive spectra to check for differences which could indicate the presence of organic compounds.
This application illustrates the high reliability of the system - installations have been running for 2 years without breaking down.
